Mary Vares Joins Catholic Charities Dallas as CFO

DALLAS – June 18, 2020 – Catholic Charities Dallas (CCD) has announced the appointment of Mary Vares, CPA, to the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective June 1, 2020. Vares has nearly 20 years’ experience in executive leadership and financial oversight for non-profit organizations and private industry.

Most recently, she served as financial controller for the Dallas Arboretum, managing and overseeing the annual budget process, external audits, and policies and procedures, in addition to financial reporting and day-to-day accounting functions. Previously, Vares served as the CFO for the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation, Vice President of Finance & Operations for Dallas Women’s Foundation, and Vice President of Accounting/Controller for United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, in addition to positions with Episcopal School of Dallas and TDIndustries.

“As Catholic Charities has continued its growth trajectory and expanded into new mission areas to meet the growing needs in the community, we knew we would need a highly experienced, special person to lead our finance and accounting functions,” said Dave Woodyard, president and CEO for Catholic Charities Dallas. “Mary’s expertise and, in particular her ability to navigate the financial ins and outs of complex non-profit organizations, will be tremendous assets for Catholic Charities.”

Vares received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration-Accounting from The University of Texas at El Paso. She is a Certfied Public Accountant in the state of Texas.

Prior to joining CCD, Mary held various leadership roles in finance, accounting and operations in the not-for-profit industry.  She has served as CFO for Texas Women’s Foundation and Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation.  She has also served in various financial roles with the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and the Dallas Arboretum.  Mary is a holds an active CPA license in the State of Texas.
