CCD Partnering with area counties, cities to administer financial relief programs
DALLAS – August 3, 2020 – In response to the continuing financial hardships caused by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Catholic Charities Dallas (CCD) has partnered with a number of counties and cities in North Texas to administer their emergency financial relief programs.
Counties and cities throughout the U.S. received federal funding from the CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security) Act to distribute to individuals, families and businesses negatively impacted by the novel coronavirus.
“Catholic Charities has the unique ability to scale up to manage large-scale financial assistance programs within our Disaster Preparedness and Relief program,” said Dave Woodyard, President/CEO. “We have already distributed nearly $1 million that we received through private donations and stand ready to support individuals and families in need throughout North Texas.”
CCD is currently working with the following entities to distribute emergency rent, mortgage and/or utility assistance relief to residents of:
Interested residents can apply online; a prescreening questionnaire will determine eligibility, based on the specific city’s or county’s guidelines. Typically, most residents who can prove residency and COVID-related financial impact (job loss, furlough, or reduction in hours or pay) may be eligible for a minimum of three months’ support.
“So many of our community members were already living paycheck to paycheck,” said Dave Woodyard, President/CEO of CCD. “With the onset of COVID-19, families are now in all-out crisis, unsure of when they may see a paycheck again and distraught about how to put food on the table or pay critical bills.”
In addition to CCD’s efforts to distribute financial assistance, the organization has continued expanded food distribution through three fixed food pantries (two in Dallas and one in Lancaster) and its two mobile community pantries. Since mid-March, CCD has distributed nearly 3 million pounds of food, helping more than 350,000 people. For a list of food distributions, please go to: https://ccdallas.org/need-help/food-services/
